For text documents, the difference is minimal once perspective correction and contrast enhancement are applied. For detailed graphics or photos, a flatbed scanner still produces more accurate colors and resolution.
Edge detection relies on contrast between the document and the surface behind it. Place the document on a differently-colored surface and ensure good lighting for best results.
