About this tool

  1. 1

    Enter current exposure

Input your current shutter speed, aperture, and ISO that produce a correct exposure.

  2. 2

    Change one setting

Adjust one variable (e.g., change aperture for different DoF) and the tool calculates equivalent values for the others.

  3. 3

    Add ND filter

Select an ND filter strength to calculate the required shutter speed for long exposures.

  4. 4

    View equivalents

See a table of all equivalent exposure combinations.

  • For ND filter calculations, use bulb mode if the calculated shutter speed exceeds 30 seconds.
  • Each full stop of ND filter doubles the required exposure time (ND2 = 1 stop, ND1000 = 10 stops).
  • Reciprocity failure may affect very long exposures on film - add extra time for exposures over 1 second.
  • Equivalent exposure calculator across aperture, shutter speed, and ISO
  • ND filter calculator supporting ND2 through ND1000000
  • Exposure value (EV) display
  • Full and third-stop increments for all settings
  • Long exposure time display in minutes and seconds
  • Calculating shutter speed when adding an ND filter for waterfall long exposures
  • Finding equivalent exposures when changing aperture for depth of field control
  • Planning golden hour and blue hour exposures with changing light
  • Determining exposure settings for intentional camera movement (ICM) photography
