The conversion to WAV is lossless in the sense that no further quality is lost. However, if the original M4A was lossy (AAC), the WAV will not recover the data lost during initial AAC encoding.
WAV is an uncompressed format. A 5 MB M4A file may produce a 50 MB WAV because WAV stores every audio sample without compression.
Yes, standard M4A files from iTunes and Apple Music (AAC-encoded) are fully supported. DRM-protected files cannot be converted.
