About this tool

  1. 1

    Set canvas size

Choose your pixel grid size - common sizes are 16×16, 32×32, or 64×64 pixels.

  2. 2

    Draw with tools

Use the pencil to place individual pixels, the fill bucket for larger areas, and the eraser to remove pixels.

  3. 3

    Choose colors

Pick colors from the palette or create custom colors. Save frequently used colors to your palette.

  4. 4

    Export artwork

Save your pixel art as a PNG at the original resolution or scaled up (2x, 4x, 8x) with nearest-neighbor interpolation.

  • Start with a small canvas (16×16) to learn the fundamentals - constraints breed creativity in pixel art.
  • Use the grid lines toggle to see cell boundaries while drawing, then hide them for preview.
  • Limit your palette to 8-16 colors for a cohesive retro aesthetic.
  • Use dithering patterns (alternating pixels of two colors) to create the illusion of a third color.
  • Pencil, fill bucket, eraser, and color picker tools
  • Customizable grid size from 8×8 to 128×128 pixels
  • Color palette with save/load functionality
  • Zoom and pan for working on large canvases
  • Export at original size or scaled up with nearest-neighbor interpolation
  • Creating sprites and tiles for retro-style indie games
  • Designing pixel art icons and avatars for social media profiles
  • Making pixel art for cross-stitch or bead art patterns
  • Creating game assets for fantasy consoles like PICO-8
